Wylfa nuclear power station closure widens the UK energy gap

Andy Day

2nd January 2016

On the penultimate day of 2015 Britain's oldest nuclear power station closed for the last time. The Wylfa nuclear power plant on the island of Anglesey, off the coast of north-west Wales, was due to close in 2010 but was maintained for a further five years as no modern replacements had been commissioned. But its time finally ran out on the 30th December 2015, creating a widening of the gap between the UK's electricity generation, and demand needs.
