The ongoing issues of living near an active volcano.

It has been 17 years since the Soufriere Hills Volcano erupted on Montserrat and whilst the volcano still shows signs of erupting, few people are aware of the ongoing anguish facing the people still living there.

As time passes, the World starts to believe that a once volatile volcano , which impacted so badly on the landscape and its people, is now quiet, and that peace has returned to this popular tourist island. This belief couldn't be further from the truth. Many of the people still living on Montserrat have had their homes destroyed and have had to embrace a new way of living in evacuation shelters. The south of the island is still a no go zone due to the increasing tectonic activity being monitored. Check out the video for personal interviews with those most affected. Pupils love to hear first hand accounts of such devastation and it often makes it easier for them to remember the impacts.
