Swansea Bay tidal barrage plan leaves stony faces in Cornwall

Proposals for the world's first tidal lagoon barrage in Swansea Bay have run into opposition from residents in - Cornwall. The renewable energy scheme, using the difference in height between twice-daily high and low tides to drive submerged turbines, requires a 6-mile long barrage. The plans, to use granite boulders from Cornish quarries, have raised concerns amongst Cornwall's environmental groups that the enlargement of quarries and transport of the stone will have a detrimental effect on the Cornish environment.
