Rip currents - Australia’s deadliest natural hazard

As a keen open water swimmer I am more than aware of the dangers that rip currents pose. Rip currents are very strong, narrow channels that can pull swimmers, canoeists, kayakers and surfers away from the shore.Research on Australia has also revealed that these dangerous ocean currents are the nations deadliest natural hazard - ahead of floods and bushfires.This short video from the BBC (which can be accessed here) explains why.
