Potential threat to the UK's national parks
18th March 2018
More than 71,000 hectares of land, which includes areas of the South Downs National Park is at risk from drilling, as sources of oil have been discovered underground in that area.
Whilst the fracking process is banned in national park areas, plans have been created that show how acid will be injected into limestone to release shale oil. Whilst the impact of this process is not as damaging to the environment as fracking it will still have some impacts, despite the oil companies saying it won't. Petitions have been set up amid concerns that the drilling could start this year. Check out the news article about this issue here... https://www.theguardian.com/bu...
