'So, can anyone recall the rapid rise in sea-level at the end of the last glaciation?' Amazingly, the answer seems to be 'Yes'. Studies by a geographer amongst indigenous Australian aboriginal communities pieces together 21 different oral histories that appear to recall the rapid inundation of coastal Australia between 18,000-7000 years ago. Using stories and myths from oral traditions passed down through generations, marine geographer Patrick Nunn and colleagues has linked them to the rapid rise of global sea levels following the last ice advance.
