Is an El Nino event welling up on the horizon?

In a complex interaction of atmosphere, ocean currents and climate impacts, Australian meteorologists are indicating they're seeing the first signs of an El Nino event beginning to develop to impact later this year. In a variable cycle of 2-7 years the Pacific Ocean's pattern of warm and cold currents switches from the usual East to West, to the reverse direction affecting subsequent weather within and around the entire Pacific, and maybe even globally.
