Forest fires in southern Spain
13th September 2021
Forest fires have broken out along the Costa del Sol with over 2000 people having to flee their homes. The fires are located in the hills behind the popular resort of Estepona.
The fires broke out quickly and spread in various directions. They were aided by strong winds which has meant they have been difficult to tackle and get under control.
Fire crews on the ground as well as in the air have been working tirelessly to get them under control but they are still currently spreading. It is likely that they will continue to spread over coming days. The fire currently covers 6000 hectares and initial investigations suggest that the fires were started deliberately.
