Five great apps for fieldwork

This week I have been looking at iPad and mobile phone apps to enhance fieldwork. Here are some of the best.1. SkitchThis free app allows to take and annotate photos and then share them with others.

2. PollDaddy is a useful free app from the owners of WordPress. It enables you to make surveys and polls for free (up to 10 questions, more if you pay). You need to create the survey on a desktop and then you can then sync survey to an iPad in a Wifi zone and the survey will work offline whilst out in the field. It's very easy to use which is a bonus.

3. Decibel10 is a great app that makes use of your phone or iPad microphone to measure noise levels.

4. iGeology is the smartphone app that contains 500 maps of the geology of Britain. This app from the British Geological Survey is invaluable for physical geography fieldwork.

5. Geomeasure is an app that allows you to accurately measure distances and areas from its maps.
