Experimental ebola vaccine in use
10th November 2018
2000 health workers, based along the border of Uganda and the DRC have been vaccinated against ebola.
DRC currently has two affected areas - Ituri & North Kivu. They are approximately 100km from Uganda's borders and there are concerns about cross-border transmission of the disease. By vaccinating key staff, the risk of the disease spreading will reduce. Previously, in earlier outbreaks, in 2000, 13 medical staff died after they came into contact with infected patients and these lives could have been saved if a vaccination had been available then.
