DRC ebola outbreak on the increase

Concerns have been raised about the current rise in deaths from ebola. Of the 1206 cases recorded in the DRC since last August, more than 150 of these have occurred in the last two weeks.

Responses by NGOs have struggled due to political instability in the area and mistrust of the medical services and advice being offered. Two health clinics had to close after violence towards Médecins Sans Frontières staff and concerns have grown that this has led to a sudden growth in reported cases. Many people believe that the disease is being used to exploit people and there are many communities that don't believe that ebola exists. This has meant that many families are still burying their own family members which is causing the disease to spread further. The WHO has considered the international risk of the disease but hasn't issued a warning yet. For more information on this story, check out the following report - https://www.theguardian.com/gl...
