BPs Energy Outlook report suggests that banning plastics could have a negative environmental impact
16th February 2019
Many people think that these suggestions are due to BP needing to ensure there will still be a demand for oil based products in the future.
The report states that an all out ban on single use plastics could happen by 2040 which will lead to a decline in the demand for oil. However, the environmental benefits of using less oil and therefore less waste ending up in the oceans could be outweighed by increasing energy use to make alternative products from glass or metal.
