Appropriate support to improve dairy farmers in developing countries

There is a general awareness of how gifts of a goat, or chickens can assist families in rural areas of developing countries. But Heifer International is all about aiding community-based development through improving the care and breeding of dairy cattle.

Operating for over 70 years in some of the most deprived rural areas of the world, Heifer International is a charity that guides and trains dairy farmers in managing, monitoring and increasing their herd with appropriate technology schemes. Sometimes this involves education into preventable disease treatment in their cattle, providing healthy genetic specimens for Artificial Insemination programmes, setting up co-operative marketing centres by means of which farmers can obtain a far price for their milk produce, or establishing rural banks where farmers can safely maintain their savings or take out loans (credit) at affordable rates of interest.

Read more about Heifer International and what they do, and where on their website introduction here and watch the video clip below from this page summarising how remote communities are being assisted.
