Alaska fires evidence global warming issue
26th August 2019
The fires that Alaska faced in July and the current south-central wildfires are evidence that these fires are increasing and are at a greater frequency than at any other time in history.
Alaska experienced the hottest July on record with temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius in Anchorage. Such high temperatures and dry vegetation has led to a significant increase in fires across Alaska. Usually, snow and ice cover can limit the risk but scientists have stated that snow and ice melting earlier in the year is not helping the situation.
