Airlines causing increasing carbon emissions
8th December 2018
A study carried out by German company "Atmosfair" has found that only 2 airlines have achieved a "B" rating for energy efficiency and none have received the "A" rating. This is being put down to the airlines failing to upgrade their fleets of older planes.
125 commercial airlines were investigated and what is surprising is that some airlines ran by some of the richest countries are less efficient than some from the poorest nations. Whilst the airlines have pledged to reduce emissions, many of them are doing so through other means rather than advancing technology. What is certain is that the 1.5 degree global temperature increase set by the Paris agreement, will not happen unless airlines take more drastic measures to reduce carbon emissions.
