Thorstein Veblen
Thorstein Veblen was an American economist and sociologist who is best known for his critique of capitalism and the concept of "conspicuous consumption." Veblen was born in 1857.
Veblen is best known for his book "The Theory of the Leisure Class," which was published in 1899. In this book, Veblen argued that the wealthy class in modern societies engages in "conspicuous consumption," or the act of spending money on luxury goods and services as a way to display their social status and wealth. Veblen also criticised the capitalist system for its emphasis on profit-seeking and the waste of resources that it generates.
