Technological progress

Progress in how production takes place and the goods and services that can be produced with available technology. Technological progress is widely regarded as the dominant source of growth in middle and high-income countries. This is because technological progress expands GDP and increases welfare by improving productivity – allowing more output to be produced with the same resources – and by enabling further innovation and development.

The development of new technologies that enhance productivity and economic output. This progress is often seen as the key driver of economic growth and societal advancement.
