Network Rail
Network Rail is the public body responsible for the maintenance and operation of the rail infrastructure in Great Britain. It was established in 2002 and is responsible for the tracks, signals, tunnels, bridges, level crossings, and other infrastructure that make up the railway network in the country.
Network Rail is also responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of this infrastructure, as well as the development of new rail projects. It is funded through a combination of government grants and investment, as well as by charges to train operating companies for the use of the network. Network Rail is a not-for-profit organization, and any excess revenues are reinvested into the rail network.
