The majority of migrant workers in the UK are from the European Union (EU). In the third quarter of 2022, there were an estimated 2.3 million EU migrant workers in the UK. The largest group of EU migrant workers were from Poland (340,000), Romania (240,000) and Italy (220,000).
There are also a significant number of non-EU migrant workers in the UK. In the third quarter of 2022, there were an estimated 1.3 million non-EU migrant workers in the UK. The largest group of non-EU migrant workers were from India (240,000), Pakistan (170,000) and China (160,000).
Migrant workers play an important role in the UK economy. They make up a significant proportion of the labour force and contribute to the economy in a number of ways. For example, migrant workers help to fill labour shortages in certain sectors, such as healthcare and construction. They also contribute to economic growth by spending money in the UK economy.
