Richard Easterlin is an American economist known for his research on economic growth and happiness. He is best known for the "Easterlin Paradox," a phenomenon he identified in the 1970s in which increases in a country's real per capita income do not necessarily lead to increased happiness or life satisfaction among its citizens.
