Council Tax

Council Tax is a local tax that is paid by households in England, Wales and Scotland. It is used to fund local services, such as schools, libraries, social care and waste collection.

The amount of Council Tax that you pay depends on the value of your property and where you live. In England, there are eight bands, ranging from A to H. The higher the band, the more Council Tax you will pay. In Wales, there are eight bands, ranging from D1 to D8. The higher the band, the more Council Tax you will pay. In Scotland, there are eight bands, ranging from A to H. The higher the band, the more Council Tax you will pay.

The rates for Council Tax are set by each local authority. The rates for 2022-23 are as follows:

  • England:
    • Band A: £1,106.83
    • Band B: £1,291.30
    • Band C: £1,475.77
    • Band D: £1,660.24
    • Band E: £1,844.71
    • Band F: £2,029.18
    • Band G: £2,213.65
    • Band H: £2,398.12
