This synoptic economics revision video looks at some of the micro and macroeconomic factors that can influence the level of profits made by businesses. Some economists argue that some businesses in the UK are using the cost of living crisis as an opportunity to generate supernormal profits. This has come to be known as “greedflation” or ”profit-push inflation”. However, the UK data shows a shallow trend decline in the net rate of return on capital employed.
