Senegal is in the top five fastest growing countries on the African continent according to the latest forecasts from the IMF. It is worth reminding that sustaining seven per cent growth per year can lead to the size of a country’s GDP doubling every ten years.
In 2019, Senegal was upgraded by the World Bank from low income to lower-middle income status. Senegal has the fourth largest economy in the West African sub-region after Nigeria, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
The Emerging Senegal Plan aims for middle-income status by 2035, with investment in energy and infrastructure, business reforms and attempts to reduce poverty.
