Where next for the Wikipedia project?

The New York Times carried this thought-provoking article by Noam Cohen about the strategic decisions that the Wikimedia Foundation are taking about the future scope and direction of Wikipedia projects around the world. The scale and range of the resource is vast but becoming increasingly skewed by a the demographic profile of the contributors — the profile is reported to be more than 80 percent male, more than 65 percent single, more than 85 percent without children, around 70 percent under the age of 30. In Japan for example over a fifth of articles are geared to pop music culture!
