Weigh less - pay less

More than one student has asked me in the past why airlines so not link some of the cost of a ticket to the actual weight of the customer? After heavier passengers might be expected to have a detrimental effect on fuel economy and perhaps on the volume of carbon emissions?

So it was interesting to see the new low-cost airline Derrie-Air make a move towards this kind of pricing structrure with environmental objectives firmly in mind. Derrie-Air styles itself as “the world’s only carbon-neutral luxury airline” .... a business that flies by the seats of its pants no doubt.
