Venice introduces peak-time tourist tax for access to the city
26th April 2024
Venice becomes first city to charge tourist entry fee. Day-trippers are now required to pay €5 for access. It's purpose is to internalise the negative externalities arising from over-tourism, which are self-evident, if you've ever been to Venice. However, it will be interesting to see what impact it has, and, I suspect whether it will still only be 5 euros next year.
