UK Economy - A New Man at the Old Lady

Geoff Riley

26th November 2012

Change is under way at the Bank of England. Chancellor George Osborne today announced that Mark Carney, a Canadian central banker, will be the new Governor of the Bank when he takes up his post in the early summer of 2013. Many have welcomed a decision to appoint a new Governor from outside the Bank's existing heavy-weights. Perhaps this represents a moment when the BoE will bring fresh thinking and dynamism into policy-making after several years when the institution looked in real danger of atrophy.
