Tyrrells sold for £300m to US firm Amplify Snacks
9th August 2016
Amplify Snacks has bought the British snack firm Tyrrels in a deal worth £300m.
Amplify is the US owner of SkinnyPop popcorn. They are buying the businesses from InvestCorp in a deal worth three times the price that InvestCorp paid when acquiring Tyrrells from private equity business Langholm Capital in 2008.
The Guardian reports that sales of Tyrrells products have more than doubled over the last eight years whilst non-UK revenues have increased from 20% of the total to almost 40%. It has also added organic and gluten-free snacks to the product range.
The Financial Times believes that this takeover deal will open up opportunities for Tyrrells to make a smove into the $9.2bn US crisp market, which is dominated by PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay brands.
