The Precariat - Life in the Gig Economy

A think tank has released a report highlighting what most people intuitively know. That employment in the gig economy is not most people's first choice, that it places a great deal of stress on workers and that there may be adverse consequences for people's mental health.
Is this a triumph of flexible labour markets or a damning indictment of the digital economy having transforming some 'workers'/self-employed contractors into 'waged slaves' akin to 19th century factory workers.
