The Merkeltaur - my favourite Greek crisis cartoon!
24th May 2012
The Greek economic crisis has led to many amusing and insightful cartoons, and my students and I have enjoyed discussing the cross-curricular links between Classics and Economics that many of the cartoons reference.
The Merkeltaur’s Labyrinth (Guy Body from the New Zealand Herald) is my favourite as it provoked a lot of thoughtful discussion on whether it was a good idea for Greece to stay in the Euro, as well as me having the chance to tell the story of the Minotaur for those who didn’t know it. And they loved the depiction of Angela Merkel! A thoroughly enjoyable beginning to the lesson that ended up taking quite a long time!
