The Economic Optimist Club
26th August 2011
My class and I had a good discussion today about this cartoon - in particular about the likely levels of attendance in different countries. The general level of consensus was that the meetings would be a lot more popular in China and India then in most Western countries.
As the academic year gets ready to start again in many places, the cartoon might be a good way to get your students talking about what they already know about the issues facing the global economy. You may also want to start sowing the seeds of evaluation…the future is always uncertain and it is usually far preferable to discuss what could happen (based on different assumptions) rather than what will happen.
And in terms of worst-case scenario, you can’t go past this Dilbert cartoon!
