The Day Today - Economics Correspondent

The Day Today was a surreal British parody of television news programmes broadcast in 1994. It was a sign of the times that, where series such as That Was The Week That Was and Not the Nine O’Clock News dealt with current affairs, The Day Today focused with laser-like intensity upon the current affairs media. One of the charcaters was Economics correspondent Peter O’Hanraha-hanrahan (his name is clearly inspired by former BBC correspondent Brian Hanrahan). This video clip concerns EU quota rates with the United States and I usually show it once I have done barriers to trade in the CIE AS level course. The presenter, Chris Morris, looks like a young Jeremy Paxman - BBC 2 Newsnight presenter.
