Tesco scales back 24 hour opening in over 70 stores
29th January 2016
Some interesting supermarket news here that reflects the changing nature of the sector - the shift towards online retailing has seen Tesco decide to reduce the number of 24-hour stores in a bid to cut costs. It is interesting because you would have thought that the operating costs involved would have been pretty low given that the stores need staffing overnight anyway.
However, it illustrates the cut-throat nature of the business and the extent to which Tesco under CEO Dave Lewis appear to be targeting cost cutting as a way of increasing profit in an increasingly contestable market.
