Sustainable growth - Mangrove reforestation saves Senegal's fishing communities
17th August 2021
A lovely short video case study here on how reforestation can help to promote sustainable development.
Reforestation of Senegal's mangroves have served to protect some coastal villages from the worst effects of climate change and given a boost to the domestic fishing sector, with oyster and cockle farmers benefiting. 50,000 families have benefited directly from reforesting the mangroves for this fishing community.
There is much left to do, Senegal is one of the countries most badly impacted by reforestation which have eroded incomes for vulnerable communities.
