We make 50 billion shoes per year, and nearly all of them end up in landfill. This Business Insider clip looks at the recyclability of sports shoes, and the difficulties in doing this.
However, a Dutch company has innovated, allowing for every part of the shoe to be recycled, using heat and friction, and the manufacturers themselves are increasingly looking at sustainably producing their footwear.
