Some more WoW from WoW delegates: Gapminder and Memrise
30th November 2014
WoW economics training days these past few weeks have been a great way to swap ideas with teachers of economics, both new and experienced. One of the beauties of such events is being able to network with colleagues who've used less well known online resources available to support us economics teachers.
This is run by Hans Rosling and has been blogged about by Geoff previously.
Teachers can download, view or visualise a wide set of economic data. Some of this is a little dated but there is a ‘play’ feature that illustrates how the items in question have changed over time, such as CO2 emissions, incidence of HIV and life expectancy. You can track the performance of individual countries in an interactive style.
The Gapmenu includes a range of human development indicators- there is a short video illustrating how it has been used by teachers here
This is a great site for putting together online memory cards that support the learning of key terms. It includes access to a range of test questions developed by other teachers that can be done online or downloaded. The best series include a 'learning hints' feature that include a picture or a mnemonic.
The economics cards already available are here [you need to register before you can access these].
There’s also some helpful generic resources on the ‘memory training’ tab on the left hand toolbar.
