Society of Business Economists - Teacher Offer

Geoff Riley

6th April 2009

The Society of Business Economists is offering Economics teachers a substantial discount on their journal - read on to learn some more about the leading organisation serving business economists in the UK.

Established originally as the Business Economists Group in 1953, the Society has grown rapidly and now serves over 600 members. The Society offers a lively programme of meetings and other activities including a newsletter, journal, conference, annual dinner and website. Members are drawn from all areas of the profession including finance and commerce, industry, government departments, private sector consultants, business schools, universities and colleges.

The Society provides members with the ideal way of keeping in touch with current issues in economics and with fellow economists. The programme of monthly meetings and the annual dinner and conference attract distinguished guest speakers. Previous speakers have included Mervyn King, Ed Balls, Jean Lemierre, Lord Adair Turner, Richard Fisher, Professor David Hendry, Jean Claude Trichet, Charlie McCreevy and Dr DeAnne Julius.

Conference
Our forthcoming annual conference on 23 June promises to be a particularly interesting event. The conference, From Financial Risk to Economic Crisis, will be chaired by Evan Davies and give members the opportunity to listen and debate with, amongst others, Spencer Dale, Chief Economist at the Bank of England; Willem Buiter, London School of Economics; Erik Berglöf, Chief Economist at the EBRD and Robert Chote of the Institute of Fiscal Studies.

The Business Economist
Apart from a lively meeting programme, the Society publishes three issues of its award-winning journal, the Business Economist, each year. The journal is an invaluable reference source for those wishing to keep abreast of developments in business economics and an indispensable guide to economics in practice. Apart from articles from distinguished authors, the journal features a comment column of topical issues, a summary of the monthly meetings and a highly popular Book Reviews section.

Journal Offer
As an introductory offer, the Society is pleased to offer teachers and college libraries a concession on journal subscriptions. All three issues of the current volume are available for £30.00 - a 25% discount on the listed price.

If you would like to join the Society, subscribe to the Journal, or find out more information, please contact Katie Abberton (tel: 01264 737552, email: admin@sbe.co.uk), or alternatively visit the Society’s website

I am delighted to say that the Society of Business Economists will be in attendance at our Annual Conference at the British Library on the 18th of June.
