Back when I was at university, I remember writing a long essay on the ‘banana wars,’ one of the worlds longest running trade disputes. According to this article, a ceasefire is likely to be declared soon which could have a devastating effect on the ACP countries who have been used to special ‘preferences’ from the EU. Consumers look to benefit with prices likely to drop by 12% by 2016. This article would be a great activity for a lesson on the advantages and disadvantages of protectionism.

This article from the Telegraph would provide a perfect starter for a lesson on protectionism as it briefly explains five important historical examples of protectionism.
