Regulation example for AS Micro - Can we ban the school run?

Like any school parking and dropping children off for the day is a problem here in Epsom. Here is a good solution proposed by the East Lothian Council; to stop dangerous driving by parents dropping their children off. Banning the School Run

This really resonated with our students as there was a real split in the classroom of those making their own way here and those getting dropped off. This spilt over into a debate about encouraging students to walk or use public transport at a young age and the resulting positive externalities.

The best part of the story is the short sentence halfway down, "The council said it was applying to the police to have officers enforce the rules." The image of local police telling parents off really stuck with our students as an example of the problems of enforcing regulation!
