Perspectives - New Series of Economics Essays

Geoff Riley

27th October 2013

I am delighted to report through the blog that a new series of short books on contemporary economics is being published from next month onwards. London Publishing Partnership and Enlightenment Economics are launching an exciting new book series Perspectives - essays on big ideas by leading writers, each given free rein and a modest word limit to reframe an issue of great contemporary interest. The series is edited by Diane Coyle who will be well known to many readers of the blog for her wonderful work selecting and reviewing new books on the subject in her Enlightenment Economics blog.
The series will be launched on Saturday November 23rd at the Bristol Festival of Economics. The first four titles in the series will be launched then, with page proofs or advance print copies available for review from October 30th.
The launch titles are as follows:
  1. The BRIC Road to Growth by Jim O'Neill. Jim O'Neill is the author of The Growth Map: Economic Opportunity in the BRICs and Beyond (Penguin/Profile 2013).
  2. Reinventing London by Bridget Rosewell - Bridget Rosewell was the Chief Economist and Chief Economic Adviser to the Greater London Authority between 2002 and 2012.
  3. Rediscovering Growth: After the Crisis by Andrew Sentance - Andrew Sentance is a business economist who served as a member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee from October 2006 until May 2011.
  4. Why Fight Poverty? by Julia Unwin - Julia Unwin is chief executive of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust. She is an influential author and commentator on public policy.

Each of the books is around 144 printed pages and will be priced at £7.99 for the paperback and £4.50 for e-book editions. More information on each title follows below.

The series editor is economist and author Diane Coyle. She is the author of several books, including The Economics of Enough (2011), The Soulful Science (2007), Sex, Drugs and Economics (2002) and Paradoxes of Prosperity (2001).

We will be reviewing these news books and providing extra information nearer to the relevant publication date.
