Nobel Prize - Allocation of Resources
15th October 2012
Here is an article from the BBC which is useful when discussing why do we as Economists care about the allocation of resources. This would be a useful article to discuss when introducing economics, or even use during an opening /day morning (and impress them) when trying to sell the subject to prospective students. Alvin Roth and Lloyd Shapley win the Nobel Prize, with an economics award. Their work is concerned with the best possible way to allocate resources, such as in school admissions or organs to patients who need transplants . You could of course use this article for many discussions, including supply and demand, efficiency and so on.
