New to Economics: Finding Economics Around You!

Geoff Riley

3rd September 2012

My first assignment for my AS Economics group this week is to get their smartphones or tablets out and in pairs find some time to explore our locality to shoot examples of economics around them. They then select six of their favourite images and turn them into a Prezi or a PowerPoint and explain to the group why their images raise interesting economics questions.

Earlier on today I took my iPad into the mean streets of Cambridge and gave myself a task of finding half a dozen photos - they are presented below!

Can you think of some of the economic issues, concepts, ideas that might be associated with each?

There must be lots of budding student photographers out there who are taking their first steps as economists? We would be delighted to showcase some of the best “economics on the street” photos taken in the next week - just upload them onto twitter and use the hash tag #econstreet - who knows, a brand new Tutor2u coffee mug might be on the way to you if selected

Over to you
