Natural Monopoly

Jim Riley

25th April 2014

As my A2 OCR students are now frantically revising for their pending mock examinations, the most common question I have been asked this week is to explain the theory of the natural monopoly in transport. Of course the usual T2U site provides the notes students need for this topic, but if you students are wanting to revise, this site may be better. At the bottom of this site, it provides some excellent examples in transport. Finally, the video below is an excellent clip by my colleague, Virang Dal, who clearly explains and de-mystifies the natural monopoly graph that all students can understand. The other video is by Jason Welker, who explains the link to subsidies in a bit more depth. My IB students have found his videos particularly useful.
