Luxury Goods - Why are Nordic Blueberries so expensive?
27th October 2022
It is a question I have often asked of myself wandering down a supermarket aisle. Why are Nordic Blueberries so expensive? "Nordic blueberries" or bilberries, grow in Nordic forest, and rapid lose their anti-oxidant qualities.
As a result, factories need to freeze them exceptionally quickly, and it's this mixture of labour-intensivity and need for advanced capital that make them so expensive, although interestingly the pickers are often Thai rose farmers who operate as temporary labour during their monsoon season.
