Labour Market General Knowledge Quiz

I'm just starting to teach labour market economics to my Year 12 Economists. Here is a ten question quiz I used to kick off our discussions to give them some introductory perspective.

1: What was net inward migration into the UK last year (to within 100,000)
2: What percentage of people in work in the UK are members of a trade union (to within 10%)
3: What is the estimated size (as a percentage) in the Gender Pay Gap (to within 10%)
4: What is the current UK unemployment rate (to within 0.5%)
5: For every £1 the average worker earns in a FTSE 100 company, what does a FTSE-100 CEO earn? (to within £50)
6: To within 5 percent, percentage of people in work in the UK are on zero hours contracts?
7: To within £1 per hour, what is the hourly adult minimum wage rate in the UK? (workers aged over 24)
8: To within 5 years, what is the median age in years of people living in the UK?
9: To within 3 years, across all genders, what is average life expectancy in years in the UK
10: To within 10%, what is the percentage share of foreign-born people in total employment in the UK?

5: For every £1 the average worker earns in a FTSE 100 company, what does a FTSE-100 CEO earn? (to within £50) A: £129
6: To within 5 percent, percentage of people in work in the UK are on zero hours contracts? A: 2.8% or just under 900,000 people
7: To within £1 per hour, what is the hourly adult minimum wage rate in the UK? (workers aged over 24) A: £7.83 per hour
8: To within 5 years, what is the median age in years of people living in the UK? A: 43 years
9: To within 3 years, across all genders, what is average life expectancy in years in the UK A: 81.6 (Glasgow: 73.4)
10: To within 10%, what is the percentage share of foreign-born people in total employment in the UK? A: 16.7%
