Download this engaging teaching resource to test student awareness of the international competitiveness rankings! You may have already seen Geoff's blog on the newly released International Competitiveness Index. The World Economic Forum annually release its table of competitiveness using a variety of data measures including economic performance, quality of education and labour efficiency. The UK has moved up to 9th in the World.

Regular readers of the Economics blog will have seen the Higher and Lower game before. It uses the time-honoured technique of asking students to call out whether they think one country's ranking on the index is higher or lower than another country. This is a fantastic resource for finding out what your students understand about the performance of other countries and allows you to look at a data table in a more engaging manner. It's a fun way to spend 10 minutes in your next class.

Download the resource from this link.

This version asks you to set up teams within your class - allow each team one or two rounds of the board and see who comes out top! The table on slide 3 shows a table with the countries listed in order with their ranking and index number.
