Geoff Riley - World famous economist in New Zealand

Geoff Riley

13th March 2011

A blushing hat tip to a fellow economic educator in New Zealand who had the following conversation in a macroeconomics class last week…...

In telling students about demand management and how a government should stimulate demand in order to encourage economic growth, I asked the class which economist was famous for this policy. In giving clues I said

- he wrote the General Theory
- there was a rap song about him and Hayek
- he went to Eton College
- a society at Eton is even named after him

Then a voice from the back said “Riley".

A classic case of information failure!!
