Fermenting Nicely - The Rise of Microbreweries
31st August 2015
Britain now has 361 independent brewers of craft beer, up from 291 in 2014 as evidence grows of the surge in popularity of craft beer-making and consumption in the UK. It is a good example of how product differentiation allows micro-breweries to operate profitably despite the dominance of the giant brewing multinationals. Some craft beer makers have been bought up by larger businesses but these acquisitions risk a backlash from drinkers who do not want to be associated with the industrial brewers when they order a pint.
