England: the Lehman Brothers of football

Geoff Riley

28th June 2010

This is a brilliant piece by Paul Mason from BBC’s Newsnight. The World Cup provides an opportune moment to consider the importance of leadership, management, innovation, being adaptive, the significance of human capital and aspects of game theory. England’s woeful showing at the WC 2010 lays bare the paucity of skills and technique of our supposedly top players, most of whom are completely immune to the criticism and disappointment because they live on a different planet from the rest of us.
