Empty shop premises ‘to hit 15%’

Jim Riley

21st July 2009

After a week of marking hundreds of GCSE exam scripts I have finally finished and can get on with my life. I need to remember the feeling at 3 o’clock last night where I was inches from breaking point before I sign up again next year.

By the end of 2009, 15% of shops are estimated to be empty. I’ve notice this where I live in Muswell Hill with two shops and a restaurant closing down this year. We also lost our Woolworths which as I’ve said before was a real blow to me and my Pick and Mix obsession. But there is some good news, Pound shops are springing up everywhere with one popping up in place of Woolworths on my road. Pound shops are always going to do well during a recession as they are full of inferior goods. I have decided to steer clear though after buying some Jaffa Cakes that were not good. I think I’ll stick to the full price ones, especially as there are a lot of good deals at supermarkets right now. Click on the links for three great articles.
